A key requirement of state literacy standards is that students comprehend increasingly complex text, yet many students struggle to make inferences and answer questions about deeper meaning.
This session will focus on how to use small-group instruction to strengthen young readers' understanding of fiction and informational text. Guided reading provides an ideal opportunity for the teacher to assess student understanding and scaffold for deeper comprehension. If you own Jan’s book “Next Step Forward in Guided Reading” please bring it with you as Jan will be referencing it during her presentation.
